Md. Mamunur Rashid
FCA, CPA

Co-Founder & CEO

Md. Mamunur Rashid is a visionary financial leader with over 18 years of experience in microfinance, banking, and strategic financial management across emerging markets including Myanmar, Thailand, Uganda, Cambodia, Tanzania, and Bangladesh. He is the Co-Founder and Director of Uzima Microfinance Uganda Limited, and currently serves as the CEO of Prime MM Microfinance Company Ltd., a technology-driven MFI in Myanmar that achieved over 600% growth within just seven months of operations. Previously, he was the Finance Director of Pact Global Microfinance Fund (PGMF), affiliated with Pact Inc. (USA), where he managed over USD 500 million in assets and successfully secured more than USD 180 million in funding from both local and international sources. His core strengths lie in turnaround leadership, digital transformation, regulatory compliance, and driving sustainable growth. Through his leadership, Uzima is advancing its mission to provide inclusive, impactful financial services to underserved communities across Uganda.

Sharmin Sultana

Shareholder & Director

Sharmin Sultana is a seasoned finance professional with over 15 years of experience across Bangladesh, Myanmar, and The Netherlands. As a Shareholder and Director of Uzima Microfinance Uganda Limited, she brings extensive expertise in international finance, audit, and operational leadership. She previously served as Financial Controller at BRAC International Holdings B.V. and as Head of Finance & Acting Country Representative at BRAC Myanmar. Sharmin played a pivotal role in managing the finance functions for BRAC International’s microfinance operations in seven countries—Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan, Liberia, Kenya, and Myanmar—ensuring strong financial integrity, donor compliance, and strategic oversight. Notably, she led successful fundraising efforts totalling over USD 200 million from global investors and development finance institutions (DFIs) to support BRAC’s international operations. Her deep knowledge of cross-border financial management and commitment to inclusive development continue to shape Uzima’s mission of delivering sustainable and impact financial services across Uganda.

Hem Chandra Roy

Shareholder & Director

Hem Chandra Roy is a development and financial inclusion expert with over 25 years of experience across Asia and East Africa, particularly in Tanzania and Uganda. As a Shareholder and Director at Uzima Microfinance Uganda Limited, he brings a deep understanding of the multidimensional nature of poverty and has dedicated his career to designing practical solutions through both financial and non-financial services. Hem has held senior leadership roles in international development organizations, including serving as Program Manager for Mercy Corps’ DREAMS initiative in Uganda, where he focused on refugee and youth empowerment. His extensive field experience, combined with a strong commitment to market-based development, guides Uzima’s mission to uplift underserved communities and promote sustainable livelihoods across Uganda.
